Unit 1: Providing for Children's Health & Safety (10 hours)
Health & Safety is a major issue in all early education centers and homes. Providing for Children’s Health & Safety is designed to assist child care providers with the health and safety concepts and issues they face everyday. Included will be information on written policies and responsibilities for carrying them out.
Unit 2: Promoting Good Nutrition (10 hours)
Proper nutrition is vital for children to be healthy. Promoting Good Nutrition is designed to provide child care providers with skills and information necessary in making healthy food choices and avoid problems related to nutrition such as obesity, malnutrition, etc.
Unit 3: Providing and Environment for Learning (10 hours)
Providing an appropriate environment for learning is essential for an early education program. Providing an Environment for Learning is designed to assist child care providers in evaluating their environment for development, guidance, and to encourage independence and allow for choices.
Unit 4: Guiding Children I (10 hours)
Guiding children includes all actions adults do to positively influence behavior. Guiding Children I is designed to provide child care providers with skills and knowledge to help children learn self control and socially acceptable behavior.
Unit 5: Guiding Children II (10 hours)
Guiding children includes all actions adults do to positively influence behavior. Guiding Children II is designed to provide child care providers skills and knowledge to effectively create an environment where positive guidance, both direct and indirect, are practiced.
Unit 6: Caring for Infants, Toddlers & Twos (10 hours)
Caring for Infants Toddlers & Twos is designed to provide child care providers knowledge and skills necessary to effectively work with children birth through age 2.
Unit 7: Caring for Preschool Children (10 hours)
Caring for Preschool Children is designed to provide child care providers knowledge and skills necessary to effectively work with children from 3 to 5 years of age.
Unit 8: Caring for School Age Children (10 hours)
Caring for School Age Children is designed to provide child care providers knowledge & skills necessary to effectively work with children from 5 to 12 years of age.
Unit 9: Caring for Children with Special Needs Children Gifts & Talents (10 hours)
Caring for Children with Special Needs Children Gifts & Talents is designed to provide child care providers knowledge and skills necessary to effectively work with children of all ages who have a variety of special needs.
Unit 10: Applying Child Development Concepts (15 hours)
Applying Child Development Concepts is designed to assist child care providers in gaining knowledge and skill in understanding that successful early experiences depends on applying basic concepts in child development.
Unit 11: Ensuring Developmentally Appropriate Practice (15 hours)
Ensuring Developmentally Appropriate Practice is designed to assist child care providers in gaining knowledge and skills to promote physical, language, cognitive, creative, social, and emotional growth in young children.
Unit 12: Developing Program Plans (15 hours)
Developing Program Plans is designed to assist child care providers in gaining knowledge and skills to provide developmentally appropriate curriculum plans based on principles of child development.
Unit 13: Involving Parents and the Community (10 hours)
Involving Parents and the Community is designed to assist child care providers in gaining the skills and knowledge to promote family and community involvement and partnerships within the early childhood program.
Unit 14: Maintaining a Record Keeping System (10 hours)
Maintaining a Record keeping System is designed to assist child care providers with skills and knowledge necessary to ensure proper documentation within the early childhood program.
Unit 15: Preparing for the Role of Master Teacher (5 hours)
Preparing for the Role of Master Teacher is designed to assist the child care provider with skills and knowledge necessary to carry out the multiple roles of a master teacher in an early childhood program.
Unit 16: Developing as a Child Care Professional (5 hours)
Developing as a Child Care Professional is designed to assist the child care provider with skills and knowledge to continually improve their job performance associated with becoming an Early Childhood Professional.
Unit 17: Preparing for CDA (35 hours)
Preparing for CDA is designed to take the child care provider through the final step in applying for the direct assessment process and obtaining their CDA through the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington DC. Enrollees in this course should have completed all the requirements necessary to meet the Council’s requirements to be a CDA candidate.
