PA1 The New Room Arrangement as a Teacher Strategy
A video presentation on how important the classroom environment is to a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Behavior problems are often traced to how the room is arranged. The video can be used as a workshop or individual learning. teaching Strategies, Inc. (Available in Spanish.) (16 mins.)

PA2 Space to Grow
The powerful influence of environments on infants and toddlers is described. Very young infants are limited in their ability to move away from an environment or to change one to their liking. The video demonstrates eight qualities for caregivers to consider when they are planning an environment for the care of infants and toddlers: health, safety, comfort, convenience, child size, flexibility, movement, and choice. WestEd. (1988) (22 mins.)

PA3 Discipline and the Physical Environment
Enhance your ability to decrease stress and potential discipline challenges by the way you arrange your environment. The use of furniture, centers, designated spaces and open areas affect the need for discipline and guidance, as you will see as you observe children playing in a classroom that has been arranged in three different ways. Suggestions are given for making room arrangements as accessible and stress-free as possible. An excellent videotape for those who prepare classrooms in any teaching situation.
Discipline/Guidance Series. Self Dimensions, Inc. (25 mins.)

PA4 The Whole Child - It's the Little Things
The importance of a well-ordered and predictable environment. The Annenberg/CPB Collection (30 mins.)

PA5 Involving Families in Active Learning Settings
Building close ties between school and home is an important factor in supporting children's learning. This video shows how staff of preschools, child care centers, Head Start programs, and other early childhood settings can create an environment that welcomes family members and is accepting of each child's family experiences and culture. Twelve key strategies are discussed that invite family participation and create a homelike atmosphere in the early childhood setting. Topics include home visits, parent conferences, adding family-oriented materials to the classroom, supporting family-related play, communicating with parents, and modeling child care and learning strategies that parents can use at home. High/Scope Educational Resources (23 mins.)

PA6 Room Arrangement as a Teaching Strategy, 2003 Edition
A well-ordered classroom promotes learning, helps build a classroom community and frees teachers to observe and interact with children in positive ways. The classroom environment can convey powerful messages to children-"this is a good place to be," "you belong here," "this is a place you can trust," "there are places where you can be by yourself when you want to," "you can do things on your own here," "this is a safe place to explore and try out your ideas." This completely updated video presents concrete ideas for arranging preschool classrooms to communicate these messages purposefully.
Teaching Strategies, Inc. (2003) (24 min.)

PA7 Places to Grow: The Learning Environment
Focuses on the importance of the classroom environment, how the room is arranged, organization of space, scheduling of time, types of materials and equipment, and how adults interact with children. From The Early Childhood Program: A Place to Learn and Grow series. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).(26 min.)
