FAQs

What is the Oklahoma Director's Credential and why is it important?

The Oklahoma Director’s Credential verifies education, and early childhood experience to place a participant at a Bronze, Copper Silver, Gold, or Platinum level.

The Oklahoma Director’s Credential is a minimum requirement for child care center directors and is renewable annually.

What are the changes to the ODC in 2016?

Below are some of the key changes to the ODC:

  • A new Platinum level has been added. Effective 1/1/2016.
  • A new Copper level has been added. Effective 11/1/2016.
  • The ODC will go to annual renewal with a minimum of 20 hours of job-related renewal training hours for Bronze and 30 hours for Copper, Silver, Gold, and Platinum credentials.
  • Some levels will have additional options in 2016, and the experience requirement for all levels has changed.
  • There is no longer a requirement for professional contributions.
  • School-age professional development/training will count toward meeting ODC criteria beginning in 2016.
  • The levels of professional development/training will also change. Instead of being designated as Tier I, II or III, training will be considered either formal or informal. See below for definitions. Note: Only 6 hours of informal training will count toward renewal hours for the ODC.

Should a course not be listed and the individual would like to inquire if it meets requirements for ECE/CD, SA, or ADMIN/MGMT, the individual can provide the Center for Early Childhood Professional Development (CECPD) with written documentation to include a course syllabi and/or course description as provided by the higher education institution for review by Registry staff members.

Can I count the Entry Level Child Care Training (ELCCT) toward meeting the criteria for the Oklahoma Director's Credential?

Training taken from a Registry approved organization or CECPD approved educator will added to a participant's training record within 2 weeks of course completion by the educator or organization approved staff.

All other training can be submitted to the Oklahoma Registry with an Education Update Form (downloadable from the Forms section of the ODC section of the website).
