Leadership Academy

Leadership Academy I - Tier II Training

Leadership Academy I is designed for child care directors, assistant directors, and administrators.  The Academy provides leadership skills training and focuses on ways to become a more effective leader to meet the needs of staff and children in their care.  Leadership Academy I provides 47 hours of training and meets the training requirements for Two- and Three-Star Centers. Application packets are mailed to all Licensed Child Care Centers in Oklahoma in the Spring and Fall of each year.

Class topics include:

  • Communication
  • Team Building
  • Ethics
  • Leadership Practices
  • Traits/Behaviors/Characteristics
  • Advocacy
  • Mentoring
  • Coping with Change
  • Discipline
  • Program Administration Scale

All applicants meeting the following requirements will be considered:

  • You must hold a current Oklahoma Director's Credential;
  • Participate in "Reaching for the Stars"
  • Strong preference will be given to those centers who serve state subsidy children; and
  • Centers will be required to have a pre-Program Administration Scale (PAS) assessment prior to the beginning class session and a post-PAS twelve months after completing the Leadership Academy I training.

Leadership Academy II - Tier II Training

  • Session I content is Planned Change and Collaborative Supervision
  • Session II content includes Philosophy to Practice

*To be eligible for Leadership Academy II, you must have completed the 47-hour training offered in Leadership Academy I and hold a current Oklahoma Registry Director's Credential.

 Leadership Academy III - Tier II Training

Training Overview - Theoretical Foundations of Child Development introduces basic theories and principles of child development as it relates to social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth of children. Practical application will be made to the early care and learning environment, making the link as to how theory informs what we teach, how we teach, the materials we use, and how we interact with young children. Teaching strategies include: small and large group discussions, hands-on activities, personal reflection, lecture, group projects and role playing.

Leadership Academy III is offered in two training sessions featuring Dr. Barbara Sorrels as the facilitator/trainer.

*To be eligible for Leadership Academy III, you must have completed the 47-hour training offered in Leadership Academy I and hold a current Oklahoma Registry Director's Credential.
